POPULAR ATTRACTIONS
Flower Pot Island
You can only get to this island…by boat! There are a couple of cruise companies that will take you there. You can either just do the cruise and enjoy the ride or you can get dropped off on the island, do the hike and the boat will pick you up later. Both options take you to see the shipwrecks. Cruise companies: The Blue Heron Company and Bruce Anchor Cruises. Both companies will pick you up at Happy Hearts Park if you make that arrangement. Both are wonderful companies and you can’t go wrong with either one.
Bruce Peninsula National Park
Tobermory is home to two national parks. The Bruce Peninsula National Park and the Fathom Five National Marine Park. Two of the most popular sites to see are the Grotto and Indian Head Cove. Both are located at Cyrpus Lake inside the Bruce Peninsula National Park. You could easily do a couple of trips to this park as there are several hiking trails and places to take a swim. The landscape of the Bruce Peninsula is quite diverse and offers lots to explore. It is recommended that you make a parking reservation for the Grotto to avoid disappointment. The drive from Happy Hearts Park to Cyprus Lake is about 8 minutes.
Bruce Peninsula Park Visitor’s Centre
The Visitor Centre is part of the National Park and is a great place to spend some time. There are a couple of hiking trails here, including the beginning of the Bruce Trail. Along the trail there are a few spots that go out to Georgian Bay. There is also a look-out tower to go up and have a nice view of the area. Inside the Visitor’s Centre you can watch a movie about the area, and walk through a beautiful gallery/museum with lots of displays about the wildlife and heritage of Tobermory. It's worth the visit. 2-3 minute drive from Happy Hearts Park.
Beaches in the area
We have 2 sandy beaches in Tobermory.
Dunks Bay is located on Dunks Bay Rd just 1 minute north of Happy Hearts Park. This is a small beach with nice sand and although the water is cold - or should we say refreshing - it is great for swimming.
Singing Sands, located on Dorcus Bay Rd. is a 6-8 minute drive south of Happy Hearts Park. This is a bigger beach with shallow, warm water. It's great for small children or just wading through the water. This location also has hiking trails and a board walk through wetlands.
**All of the National Park locations - Singing Sands, Flowerpot Island, Cyprus, Visitors Center have a day use fee.
The Chi Cheemaun
The Chi Cheemaun, also called the Big Canoe, is a ferry that runs between Tobermory and South Baymouth, Manitoulin Island. It holds 650 passengers and 140 vehicles!
